YOUR EXPERIENCE OVERVIEW:
Two Weeks. One Wild Experience. A Lifetime of Stories.
The Wildest Vet program is an immersion — into field work, real veterinary challenges, early mornings, unpredictable days, and moments you’ll remember for the rest of your life.
No two days are ever the same — wildlife work never is — But here’s a glimpse into the days of veterinary conservation missions.
Mornings: Sunrise, Daybreak Coffee, Boots On, Go
Each day begins with the sun breaking over the mountains and the team gathering to brief for whatever operations lie ahead.
Depending on weather, bookings, or emergency calls, your day may include:
- Preparing equipment for field procedures
- Joining immobilisation darting operations
- Monitoring anaesthesia, and recovery
- Assisting with data collection
- Helping with husbandry or animal checks
- Animal tracks & tracking
- Jumping into the vehicle for last-minute field calls
You’ll stay close to the action while the vet works — learning, observing, and supporting where appropriate.
Afternoons: Fieldwork, Learning & Bush Life
After lunch, the day unfolds into a mix of structured and spontaneous wildlife moments.
You may:
- Translocate animals between reserves
- Assist during treatments or minor procedures
- Darting sessions & practice shooting
- Blood collection for disease testing
- Join the vet on follow-up checks
- Learn about behaviour, conservation medicine, and reserve management
- Spend time exploring the ecological side of wildlife work
- Theory sessions with veterinarian
Some days are physically demanding. Others are spent waiting for the right moment to act.
Either way, you’ll be doing what most people only dream of.
Evenings: Reset, Reflect, Recharge
As the day winds down, you’ll return to comfortable accommodation with hot showers,
shared spaces, and quiet moments to take it all in.
Evenings are usually relaxed — a time to:
- Swap stories with the team
- Review what you learned
- Prepare for the next day’s operations
- Rest (trust us, you’ll need it)
It’s the perfect balance of adventure and downtime.

No two days will look the same.
Wildlife work is unpredictable — plans may change with weather, animal behaviour, emergencies, or vet bookings.
Conservation first.
Yes, you’ll enjoy beautiful landscapes, but your primary purpose is to learn, observe, and engage in real fieldwork alongside a wildlife vet.
Some days are full of action.
Others involve stretches of driving between reserves, waiting, scouting, or preparing equipment.
This experience will push you (in all the right ways).
Early mornings, long days, unexpected challenges — and the kind of reward you only get from real conservation work.
There won’t always be perfect clarity about the day ahead.
The team often adapts in real-time. Flexibility is key.
You’re not here as a tourist — you’re part of the team.
You’ll learn, contribute where appropriate, and grow — not just observe from the sidelines.
